Hello again! I'm sure you are tired of hearing about my dog by now, but just a few more and then I will be done. These past week we did not have a blog so this blog is the first one in two weeks. I actually got a lot done with Coco in that time. I was about ready to give up because she wasn't making progress at all, but then she really surprised me. I took her along for a few rides in the pickup with me just to try and see if she still gets car sick, and she actually went on the whole ride without getting sick, which is pretty exiting. Now she thinks it's a great idea to run to the pickup whenever we drive anywhere with it. On Sunday though I was kind of disappointed that she did end up getting car sick when we were hauling bales, but on the bright side I was able to open the door fast enough so she didn't throw up in the pickup. I am glad that we made some good progress with that though.

This is me an Coco riding in the pickup together going to shut gates and run parts to the equipment operators.

Another great thing that happened this week when I was working with Coco was she actually herded the sheep. They had gotten out so I was tasked with getting them back in. I took her and the sheep dog with me to get them in and she immediately knew what to do. She ran up counterclockwise around the herd and came back towards me keeping them together as a bunch just like a true herding dog would. I couldn't believe my eyes, it looked like I had been training her for months when in reality this is the first time she has gotten that close to the sheep. She did get a little carried away though. She decided to run right through the middle of the sheep and all over which spooked them enough to push them off the intended path, but it's still a working process. I think next week I am going try and get her near the horses and tie her to a leash and have her run beside the horse to get her used to it. I am really hoping this works because I really want to start taking her to the ranch so she can herd the cows. By the end of this I hope my training will work out and I can take her with me anywhere.

  1. Wow that is awesome! I have to say I did laugh out loud a little bit on this post. Has she ever tried to herd sheep before? Do you think that the other dog helped tech her what to do and do you intend to use him/her to help mentor Coco?

  2. That is so great that Coco did so well when she was herding! I am also glad that she did not puke in your truck. Has your action plan worked out the way you wanted it too? Your dog is so cute by the way. I hope you can bring her into class.
